Oldham licensing policy: questions and answers

Based on Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy (includes vehicle and driver conditions and byelaws) (Oldham Council, published 21 October 2025) and 2 other sources. Checked .

Licence conditions and policy is one of the topics in Oldham's knowledge test. These questions are based on the drivers section of the Council's Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy, which took effect on 21 October 2025, and its Policy on the Fitness and Suitability of Applicants and Licence Holders.

The numbers to learn: 15 out of 20 to pass, 3 years for a licence, 8 weeks to renew early, 7 days of grace after a licence ends, and 5 years for a break before you must retake the test.

For the national law behind these rules, see our licensing law topic. The Council's training also covers it, although the test's published topic list names only conditions and policy.
