Oldham hackney byelaws: questions and answers
Based on Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy (includes vehicle and driver conditions and byelaws) (Oldham Council, published 21 October 2025). Checked .
Hackney carriage drivers in Oldham are subject to byelaws, not driver conditions. Every Oldham driver holds a Dual Driver Licence, so you can drive a hackney carriage as well as a private hire vehicle. The Council's knowledge test covers licence conditions and policy, and it does not say which of these rules it asks about.
These questions are based on Appendix D (the byelaws dated 15 March 2004), Appendix B (the hackney carriage vehicle conditions) and the vehicle and rank sections of the Council's Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy.
Learn these numbers: 48 hours to take lost property to a police station, £5 as the most you can claim for returning it, and 85 as the limit on Oldham hackney carriages.
