Solihull vehicle maintenance: questions and answers

Based on Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Licensing Handbook (Taxi and Private Hire Licensing Policy 2026), version 1.2 (Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, published 1 July 2026) and one other source. Checked .

Vehicle maintenance is one of the six subjects in Solihull's training course test, with 8 of the 48 questions. The Council does not publish what the trainer asks. These questions are based on the vehicle rules in its Taxi and Private Hire Licensing Policy: the vehicle specification in Annex B, and the conditions for private hire vehicles (Annex D) and hackney carriages (Annex F).

Many of these rules name the vehicle owner, called the proprietor, but the daily check and some other rules also name the driver. If you drive a licensed vehicle, you need to know them. Questions that apply to one licence type are marked.
