Solihull driver conditions: questions and answers

Based on Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Licensing Handbook (Taxi and Private Hire Licensing Policy 2026), version 1.2 (Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, published 1 July 2026) and 2 other sources. Checked .

Compliance with legislation, conditions and policy is one of the six subjects in Solihull's training course test. New conditions came into force on 1 July 2026, and the Council tells every licence holder to read them because some have changed.

These questions are based on Annex C of the Council's Taxi and Private Hire Licensing Policy, the conditions on a private hire driver's licence. The policy has no matching annex for hackney carriage drivers, so these questions are marked as private hire. Hackney carriage rules are in our vehicle maintenance and standards topic.

The national law on plying for hire, smoking and assistance dogs is in our core topics. Learn the Solihull numbers here: 48 hours to tell the Council, and 24 hours at most to report a safeguarding concern.
