Topographical test road numbers: questions and answers
Based on Topographical assessment guidelines (Transport for London, no date printed; PDF file dated 29 April 2026) and one other source. Checked .
TfL lists identifying road numbers as one part of the assessment. In the real test, you read the number from a map on screen. Our questions do not show a map, so they help you learn the numbers of the main roads.
Every number comes from the road number (the ref tag) on OpenStreetMap. We only ask about a road where one number covers at least 90% of the road. Road numbers can change, and a printed map can be older. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
